Books!

This week, as one reader to another, I'd like to share some of my favorite reads from the last year or so. Some of them are not as new as others, but they are all books that I enjoyed and recommend.

First, some nonfiction . . .
Jump! by Steve Harvey. This book is really small. I mean super small. It is based on a speech he gave to his audience after taping one of his shows. The video went viral. In the book, Steve talks about chasing your dreams and gives examples from his own life experience. It is a motivational and inspiring read. If you don't read often but are looking for something uplifting, then this book is for you!

The Magnolia Story by Chip and Joanna Gaines & Capital Gaines by Chip Gaines. Both of these books are really great. In The Magnolia Story, Chip and Joanna discuss how they got to be where they are. Capital Gaines is more from Chip's perspective. You get to hear more about him personally and his journey. He also shares his own life lessons, which are both humorous and encouraging (but everything Chip does is humorous, right?).

Now for some YA . . .
For Love and Honor by Jody Hedlund. A beautiful story set in the Middle Ages about a young woman with a skin blemish. In order to keep from being accused of witchcraft, the young woman must wear gloves at all times to hide the large birthmark on her arm. Enter a young man with a love for art and who can see beauty where others cannot. I smell romance!

The Huntress of Thornbeck Forest by Melanie Dickerson. I love Melanie. I love her Hagenheim series. It was only recently, that I decided to give her Thornbeck series a try. Boy, was I impressed! Small confession: I may like this short series better than the other!!

The Storm Siren series by Mary Weber. For those of you who already know me, you've probably seen me gush more than once on Facebook about these books. Well I'm about to do it again. This is a fantasy series and not something I would normally read. That being said, I read this entire three book series in less than two weeks! Then I bought it and read it again. This lovely series is about a girl who is a slave. Due to her inability to control her storm-summoning powers, she has inadvertently harmed others multiple times over the years. After being sold to her umpteenth owner, she meets Eogan, a dark and mysterious man who is tasked with training her to control her powers-and to use them as a weapon.
Nym must confront who and what she is and learn how to open her heart in ways she never thought possible. This is a lovely story about compassion, friendship, love, and learning to accept oneself. I highly, highly recommend!!! Okay, gushing over.

I hope you've found something here that interests you, friends!!

If not, then happy book hunting. There's always a great story out there waiting to be found.

Love and blessings,
J ๐Ÿ’™

Spring is Here!๐ŸŒท

Happy spring, friends!๐ŸŒž๐ŸŒฑ We've had a lot of rain here in the Hoosier state. It's getting warmer, and things are greening up. I can't wait for sunny days when I can go for walks and start working on my garden. This year, I'm planning to try my hand at container gardening. My garden plot is pretty small to start with. I like things that are straightforward and practical. So, this seems like it might be a good fit. And less weeding! Which is good, because I'm continuing to work through final tweaks for Champion's Sword . I should be done by the end of April. Then I'll move on to formatting, followed by one final read to check for commas and such. I'm looking forward to refilling my creative well and returning to drafting after so long in editing land.๐Ÿ˜‰ Reading . . . This month, I re-read Spells for Forgetting  by Adrienne Young. And I finally got my hands on Ignite  by Kara Swanson. If you've read Champion's Key , you'll understand why this ...

Happy December!

Happy December, friends! I don't know about you, but I drink hot drinks all year round. I love to start my day with coffee and end it with tea. As the weather has turned colder, I've found greater enjoyment in it. There's just something about cozying up with a warm drink. But to be honest, as I've gotten older, a fair amount of the shiny parts of the Christmas season have been overshadowed by the frustration of societal expectations. Less is more, I say. Yet I've realized this isn't about me. Shocker, I know. So, I've set out my few minimalist decorations. I've embraced a tree this year (a tiny Scandinavian-style one, but even so). And strangely, I'm finding that I don't mind the twinkle lights so much this year. Even if the silver garland I placed on the mantle is driving me bonkers. Reading . . . Heir, Apparently  by Kara McDowell The Prince and the Apocalypse, Bk. 2 YA Fiction/Romance Bully Pulpit: Confronting the Problem of Spiritual Abuse ...

Behemoth

Guys, I have three chapters left! Theoretically, I should be able to tackle these last chapters next week. I will say, though, that I've learned things often take me longer than I expect, and chapter fifty-one is a behemoth . Seriously, it's double the size of a lot of my chapters. After I've finished with edits, I'll read through the entire book to check everything one final time (and fix em dashes in the first half๐Ÿ˜) before moving on to formatting, cover design, and publication. Yay! Reading . . . This month, I read So That Happened  by Katie Bailey (Donovan Family, Bk. 1), a grumpy-sunshine romcom that was super cute. And I finally returned to the Hawthorne Brothers series (Jenny Proctor) and read How to Kiss Your Grumpy Boss  (Bk. 2) and How to Kiss Your Enemy (Bk. 3). Somehow, I unintentionally picked three workplace romances . . . and movie star ones for my upcoming blog๐Ÿ™ˆ, with the exception of Beg, Borrow, or Steal by the amazing Sarah Adams. I'll be repe...
