3/3/20

It's often the simple things that make life worthwhile, is it not?

As a proud aunt, I have to tell you the highlight of my day was clomping footsteps breaking the quiet. It was quickly followed by a voice shouting, "Jessitta! Jessitta! Jessitta!" I scooped up that little bean in my arms to give him a big hug.πŸ’™

I hope you find something sweet in your week as well. A text from a friend. A word of encouragement. A joke that makes you laugh until you cry. A song you fall in love with and sing at the top of your lungs. A sunshine filled day.

Speaking of sunshine, February is over! Sunnier days are coming!
But if it's still dreary and cold where you are there's always a good book and a hot cup of coffee to bring one cheer. As always, feel free to steal from my reading list.πŸ˜‰

My February Reads

From Darkness Won by Jill Williamson
This book, this entire series, was absolutely amazing. They are probably the biggest books I've ever read. A lone exception might be Grimm's Fairy Tales. The ending (how Achan defeats darkness) was certainly not what I expected, but Jill did not disappoint! I look forward to reading more of her books.
Five stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Sleepless (Vol. 2) by Sarah Vaughn
Graphic Novel. As with the first book, I read this to complete a reading challenge. I probably would have read the second volume regardless. The story was interesting and the artwork was beautiful. Vol. 2 also has bonus artwork at the end by various artists. There were some really gorgeous drawings.

*Note: There are only two books for February because 1.) February was short. 2.) I've been trying to read two nonfiction books while reading these. But let's be honest, fiction is more fun!

Congrats, Liana Resnikoff!
You are the winner of our fundraising raffle for author Mary Weber. You should be receiving your signed copy of A Desperate Love very soon!

Thank you to everyone who participated! I heard there were people who gave even without entering the raffle. I know you've blessed Mary and her family. So thank you!!!

Sky in the Deep Read-Along

Author Adrienne Young has been hosting a read-along for her book Sky in the Deep on Instagram. I have so enjoyed following along and revisiting the world of the Aska and Riki. This is the final week to join in. If you've already read Sky (or maybe you're just a super fast reader) you can still get in on the fun. Friday there will be a Q&A box on her story highlights. Then Sunday she does an IG live video and answers the submitted questions.
You can still catch her Behind the Book videos on her IG TV after this is over. Adrienne shares a lot of fun things in the videos. You should totally check it out!

Blessings,

Spring is Here!🌷

Happy spring, friends!🌞🌱 We've had a lot of rain here in the Hoosier state. It's getting warmer, and things are greening up. I can't wait for sunny days when I can go for walks and start working on my garden. This year, I'm planning to try my hand at container gardening. My garden plot is pretty small to start with. I like things that are straightforward and practical. So, this seems like it might be a good fit. And less weeding! Which is good, because I'm continuing to work through final tweaks for Champion's Sword . I should be done by the end of April. Then I'll move on to formatting, followed by one final read to check for commas and such. I'm looking forward to refilling my creative well and returning to drafting after so long in editing land.πŸ˜‰ Reading . . . This month, I re-read Spells for Forgetting  by Adrienne Young. And I finally got my hands on Ignite  by Kara Swanson. If you've read Champion's Key , you'll understand why this ...

Happy December!

Happy December, friends! I don't know about you, but I drink hot drinks all year round. I love to start my day with coffee and end it with tea. As the weather has turned colder, I've found greater enjoyment in it. There's just something about cozying up with a warm drink. But to be honest, as I've gotten older, a fair amount of the shiny parts of the Christmas season have been overshadowed by the frustration of societal expectations. Less is more, I say. Yet I've realized this isn't about me. Shocker, I know. So, I've set out my few minimalist decorations. I've embraced a tree this year (a tiny Scandinavian-style one, but even so). And strangely, I'm finding that I don't mind the twinkle lights so much this year. Even if the silver garland I placed on the mantle is driving me bonkers. Reading . . . Behemoth

Guys, I have three chapters left! Theoretically, I should be able to tackle these last chapters next week. I will say, though, that I've learned things often take me longer than I expect, and chapter fifty-one is a behemoth . Seriously, it's double the size of a lot of my chapters. After I've finished with edits, I'll read through the entire book to check everything one final time (and fix em dashes in the first half😐) before moving on to formatting, cover design, and publication. Yay! Reading . . . This month, I read So That Happened  by Katie Bailey (Donovan Family, Bk. 1), a grumpy-sunshine romcom that was super cute. And I finally returned to the Hawthorne Brothers series (Jenny Proctor) and read How to Kiss Your Grumpy Boss  (Bk. 2) and How to Kiss Your Enemy (Bk. 3). Somehow, I unintentionally picked three workplace romances . . . and movie star ones for my upcoming blogπŸ™ˆ, with the exception of Beg, Borrow, or Steal by the amazing Sarah Adams. I'll be repe...
