Sn❅w Day!

"A snow day literally and figuratively falls from the sky, unbidden, and seems like a thing of wonder."

--Susan Orlean

Are you getting snow where you are? We received fourteen inches of snow this week. Fourteen! What should have been a regular workweek turned into a few days off. Hubs dubbed me his "shovel buddy" as we had to go out regularly to shovel the drive. We wrestled a screen off an upstairs window so he could poke his head out and brush snow off the roof. My broom broke, but he got the job done.๐ŸคฃWe ate warm soup and homemade lemon oatmeal cookies and watched curling (his favorite Winter Olympic sport). And I had a breakthrough with a chapter that's been giving me some trouble. All in all, it was a pretty good week.

What I've been reading . . .

Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell

Children's

Re-read

"Rontu . . . tell me why it is that you are such a handsome dog and yet such a thief."

Mr. O'Dell was my favorite author as a child, and it had been many years since I'd read this story. I was so delighted when I searched for the book in the library catalog and saw the read-a-likes. Fable by Adrienne Young came up (and you all know how much I love her writing). It was this weird connection between an island/survival story from my youth and the present. I can't really explain it except to say it made me teary-eyed.

The Story Peddler by Lindsay A. Franklin

YA Fantasy

Re-read

"But as I stared around the Corsyth . . . at the beauty shaped by creation and by the hands that lived here--it tickled something inside me. Something that had been so long asleep I didn't even know it existed."

I Heard God Laugh by Matthew Kelly

Christian Nonfiction

". . . in the spiritual life we are continually invited into deeper places, even as the world seems to be luring us into ever-shallower experiences of life and each other . . ."

I visited a friend's church last year. She made sure to load me down with freebies before I left, including this book. It's an easy read with simple, profound statements.

Matthew has a YouTube video called "You Have the Heart of a Lioness". I adapted this as an affirmation, put it on my fridge, and read it weekly!

What I'm listening to . . .

"Leave a Light On" by Tom Walker

"Play With Fire" by Sam Tinnesz (feat. Yacht Money)

"I Will Trust" (Live) by Red Rocks Worship

Currently enjoying . . .

*My dry erase board. I got some new markers for it and moved it into my kitchen. It's getting so much more use there than it was in my office. And it's a lot cleaner looking than the scraps of paper I was using to keep track of meals and scribble running lists for groceries.

*The healing ointment I bought at the dollar store. It's basically Vaseline in a tube, but it's helped my hands immensely. Every winter I get what I call my "grandma hands". Basically, they lose moisture to the point of cracking and bleeding. It hasn't remedied the issue, but applying it nightly (and lotion during the day) keeps it at bay until evening.

Blessings,

J ♥

Spring is Here!๐ŸŒท

Happy spring, friends!๐ŸŒž๐ŸŒฑ We've had a lot of rain here in the Hoosier state. It's getting warmer, and things are greening up. I can't wait for sunny days when I can go for walks and start working on my garden. This year, I'm planning to try my hand at container gardening. My garden plot is pretty small to start with. I like things that are straightforward and practical. So, this seems like it might be a good fit. And less weeding! Which is good, because I'm continuing to work through final tweaks for Champion's Sword . I should be done by the end of April. Then I'll move on to formatting, followed by one final read to check for commas and such. I'm looking forward to refilling my creative well and returning to drafting after so long in editing land.๐Ÿ˜‰ Reading . . . This month, I re-read Spells for Forgetting  by Adrienne Young. And I finally got my hands on Ignite  by Kara Swanson. If you've read Champion's Key , you'll understand why this ...

My Book, Vikings, and Fall

Obviously, the first thing I'm going to mention in this week's blog is the fact that A Desperate Love  has officially released! Yay!๐Ÿ˜ For those of you who live here, I am doing a giveaway at the Flora Library. Why not swing by and enter (Rules prohibit family from entering. Sorry!)? Grab a free key chain while you're at it (I made them myself, so supplies are limited.) ๐Ÿ•ฎ One of my sister's posted this picture of her copy of my book. Isn't it great? Speaking of sisters, another sister (I have a lot of them๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’œ) text me her opinion/personal review of my book. "AWESOME! I loved it! It was well written, intriguing, suspenseful, and had Christian principles without being cheesy!" --H. Maybe she's partial, but it made me feel so loved. ๐Ÿ’™ ๐Ÿ•ฎ Thing I am watching this week: The History Channel's Vikings . I am 2/3 of the way through Season 1. I wasn't sure at first, but...

Visuals 2

I have been so busy this week, friends. How about you? I'm also super excited about "A Desperate Love" coming out! As we get closer to the release, I've been thinking about how crazy this journey has been. Did you know that I originally wrote the entire thing out with pencil and paper? The Entire Thing! Who does that? Me, apparently! Most recently I've been doing my editing amid construction noise.  This process has included, but has not been limited to, writing in my dining room within reach of a basketball hoop, saving money for a year to buy my Chrome Book, learning how to market myself online, typing for hours , going into work on my days off to type . . . etc., etc. Honestly, it is a story in itself! And now, I present to you, more pictures from my Desperate Love Pinterest board. These are a few of the pictures I used to inspire me and to keep me focused on what I had in mind. How I envision Lady Olivia. How I envi...
