My Favorite YouTubers

Something I've wanted to do for a while is share my favorite YouTube channels. But every time I considered doing it as a post on social media, I would get overwhelmed and set the idea aside. What better way to give it the attention it deserves and shift back into author mode than to post it here? Also, typing everything out on my phone sounded absolutely horrendous.

And for those of you who are curious, I plan to start drafting next week.πŸ˜‰ As I type this, aesthetic photos look down upon me from my bulletin board and a blue binder containing character sheets, scene ideas, & town places sits to my left. I have dubbed my little town "Kirkley."🩷

Side note: A number of these YouTubers have books, so be sure to check those out as well!

Bernadette Banner: If you're a fan of fashion history, hand sewing, and corsetry, this is the place for you!

Charlie Follows: I really enjoyed the yoga teacher I was following online before Charlie, but I wasn't a huge fan of the pilates-style movements she would occasionally throw in to her practices. Charlie has a body type similar to mine and gives modifications that help. There's generally no music in her videos, which annoyed me at first, but it didn't take me long to adjust and appreciate the quiet.

Katherine Haircare: Historical haircare. While I don't do clay washing like Katherine, I've implemented other practices that I'm really loving like hair oiling, using aloe in place of hairspray or gel, and making my own dry shampoo from cocoa and cornstarch.

Little House on the Mountain: Cozy & aesthetic. Faith-based. Healthy living.

Melody Joy Williams: This is a new channel to me, and I've only watched/listened to her videos where she reads scripture to what she calls "soaking music." It's very soothing & a great way to get in a lot of scripture in a short time since it can be listened to while you're cooking, cleaning, or getting ready for the day.

More Than Farmers: Homesteading. Michelle brings practicality, Codi brings big ideas, & I am here for it!

Mountain Mama's Home (& Mountain Mama's Home Kitchen): Homemaking, homesteading, & homeschooling. Shayla thinks a little out the box, which I appreciate. I've implemented a few organizational things I picked up from her channel into my kitchen. Let me tell you, with a kitchen as small as mine, the space it freed up continues to make me happy.

Rachel Maksy: Sewist, crafter, maker, vintage enthusiast, & cosplayer. If you don't know why I love her channel, you must be new here. Go check her out!!

Tasting History with Max Miller: Max makes a historical recipe & shares the history connected to it. Excellent! 10 out of 10.

The Honeystead: Herbalism, beekeeping, & homesteading.

Townsends: History & life in the 18th century, mostly focused around the food.

Whipporwill Holler: Homesteading. A little gardening & a lot of cooking.

Whispering Willow Farm: Homesteading. Gardening, sour dough, and natural wellness. Not gonna lie, the turquoise bandana I recently bought is all Jill's fault. She knows how to rock that boho/hippie look.

**Bonus channels:**

Mariah Pattie: Sewing. Mariah hadn't posted any videos for a while because she had a baby. I finally got around to watching her most recent video and, well, let's just say I fell down the let's-rewatch-all-the-videos rabbit hole.πŸ˜‚

The Promised Land: AKA "The Promised Land series" & not to be confused with a television show of the same name back in the day. A humorist twist on the biblical story. Think Moses & the children of Israel meets The Office. A fan favorite is Chisisi, an Egyptian who survived the Red Sea and is now living among them pretending to be Hebrew. While the pilot episode has been out for some time, Season 1 officially begins October 1. You can catch both on YouTube.

Blessings,

Jessica ♡

Spring is Here!🌷

Happy spring, friends!🌞🌱 We've had a lot of rain here in the Hoosier state. It's getting warmer, and things are greening up. I can't wait for sunny days when I can go for walks and start working on my garden. This year, I'm planning to try my hand at container gardening. My garden plot is pretty small to start with. I like things that are straightforward and practical. So, this seems like it might be a good fit. And less weeding! Which is good, because I'm continuing to work through final tweaks for Champion's Sword . I should be done by the end of April. Then I'll move on to formatting, followed by one final read to check for commas and such. I'm looking forward to refilling my creative well and returning to drafting after so long in editing land.πŸ˜‰ Reading . . . This month, I re-read Spells for Forgetting  by Adrienne Young. And I finally got my hands on Ignite  by Kara Swanson. If you've read Champion's Key , you'll understand why this ...

Happy December!

Happy December, friends! I don't know about you, but I drink hot drinks all year round. I love to start my day with coffee and end it with tea. As the weather has turned colder, I've found greater enjoyment in it. There's just something about cozying up with a warm drink. But to be honest, as I've gotten older, a fair amount of the shiny parts of the Christmas season have been overshadowed by the frustration of societal expectations. Less is more, I say. Yet I've realized this isn't about me. Shocker, I know. So, I've set out my few minimalist decorations. I've embraced a tree this year (a tiny Scandinavian-style one, but even so). And strangely, I'm finding that I don't mind the twinkle lights so much this year. Even if the silver garland I placed on the mantle is driving me bonkers. Reading . . . Heir, Apparently  by Kara McDowell The Prince and the Apocalypse, Bk. 2 YA Fiction/Romance Bully Pulpit: Confronting the Problem of Spiritual Abuse ...

Behemoth

Guys, I have three chapters left! Theoretically, I should be able to tackle these last chapters next week. I will say, though, that I've learned things often take me longer than I expect, and chapter fifty-one is a behemoth . Seriously, it's double the size of a lot of my chapters. After I've finished with edits, I'll read through the entire book to check everything one final time (and fix em dashes in the first half😐) before moving on to formatting, cover design, and publication. Yay! Reading . . . This month, I read So That Happened  by Katie Bailey (Donovan Family, Bk. 1), a grumpy-sunshine romcom that was super cute. And I finally returned to the Hawthorne Brothers series (Jenny Proctor) and read How to Kiss Your Grumpy Boss  (Bk. 2) and How to Kiss Your Enemy (Bk. 3). Somehow, I unintentionally picked three workplace romances . . . and movie star ones for my upcoming blogπŸ™ˆ, with the exception of Beg, Borrow, or Steal by the amazing Sarah Adams. I'll be repe...
